Penang Japanese School Renovation Project

A renovation project was carried out at the Penang Japanese School in conjunction with the relocation to an existing school building.
The project focused on upgrading both architectural and building services aspects to ensure continuity of the educational environment and safety, while complying with current regulations and operational requirements of a Japanese-style school.

Plus PM Consultant was involved throughout the project lifecycle, from the design phase through to construction completion, providing coordination among stakeholders and comprehensive construction management under limited time and budget constraints.

Project Characteristics

• As part of the renovation for the relocation to a Japanese-style school, the facilities were upgraded to support Japanese educational operations, including installation of air-conditioning systems in classrooms, toilet renovations, low-voltage and plumbing works for science rooms, soundproofing works for the music room, and upgrades to the electrical power supply capacity.

• As the existing building was classified as an old structure and did not hold a building inspection certificate under current regulations, statutory submissions and compliance works were required. These included the installation of emergency staircases, fire compartments, fire-rated doors, and additional hose reel systems to meet safety and legal requirements.

• Plus PM Consultant provided end-to-end support for the relocation, overseeing the design coordination, tender process, and construction management to ensure a smooth and successful relocation and school opening.
